Overview

Define and lead Evergreen Finance’s enterprise data strategy, aligning data capabilities with business objectives. Own and evolve the data platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and fit for analytics and operational use. Establish and embed data governance, quality, and standards across the organisation. Build and lead a high-performing data engineering function, setting delivery standards and ways of working. Drive data culture and maturity, enabling self-service analytics and increasing data literacy across business teams. Act as the senior point of communication and advocacy for data, translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategy and Leadership
    • Define a clear data vision and roadmap aligned to business priorities and measurable outcomes.
    • Establish the operating model for data, including roles, responsibilities, and ways of working.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on data-driven decision-making.
    • Secure and manage budget, tooling, and investment in data capabilities.
  • Data Platform Ownership
    • Own the end-to-end data platform architecture, including ingestion, transformation, storage, and access layers.
    • Ensure the platform is secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective.
    • Set and maintain standards for data modelling, pipelines, and platform engineering practices.
    • Oversee vendor/tooling selection and implementation where required.
  • Data Governance and Quality
    • Define and implement a data governance framework, including ownership, stewardship, and policies.
    • Establish processes for data quality monitoring, lineage, and metadata management.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and data protection requirements.
    • Promote consistent definitions and a single source of truth across the organisation.
  • Delivery and Engineering Leadership
    • Build, lead, and develop a data engineering team.
    • Define and implement delivery processes, including agile practices, prioritisation, and backlog management.
    • Ensure high standards of engineering quality, documentation, and maintainability.
    • Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability.
  • Data Adoption and Maturity
    • Drive self-service analytics capability, enabling business users to access and use data confidently.
    • Partner with stakeholders to identify high-value use cases and data products.
    • Lead initiatives to improve data literacy and adoption across the organisation.
    • Establish feedback loops to improve the usability and value of data assets continuously.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
    • Act as the primary interface between technical teams and business stakeholders.
    • Communicate progress, risks, and value of data initiatives in business terms.
    • Build strong relationships across departments to embed data into decision-making processes.

Your skills & experience

Essential

  • Proven experience defining and executing data strategy at the organisational level, including platform ownership.
  • Strong background in modern data platforms (e.g. cloud data warehousing, pipelines, governance tooling).
  • Demonstrable leadership of data engineering or platform teams, including delivery management and capability building.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks, including data quality, lineage, and stewardship.
  • Track record of improving data maturity and enabling self-service analytics in a business setting.
  • Ability to engage senior stakeholders and influence cross-functional adoption of data-driven practices.

Desired

  • Experience building a data function from scratch or in low-maturity environments.
  • Familiarity with financial services / regulated environments, including data compliance considerations.
  • Exposure to data product thinking and domain-oriented architectures.
  • Experience implementing or scaling self-service BI and analytics tooling (e.g. Power BI, Looker, Tableau).
  • Knowledge of data literacy and enablement programmes to support organisation-wide adoption.
  • Understanding of AI/ML enablement strategies and how they build on a strong data platform.
