About Us

At Everflow, we’re on a mission to reshape the utility industry.

We’re an award-winning, fast-growing business delivering smarter, greener water, waste and connectivity solutions to businesses across the UK and we’re proud of the impact we make every day.

Our quest is simple but powerful: bringing services together to make lives simple.

By saving our customers time, money, and energy, we give them the headspace to focus on what really matters growing their businesses and making an impact.

And while free coffee and ping pong are nice (very nice, actually), they’re not the reason people stay.

Our culture is.

We value authenticity over ego, curiosity over comfort, and progress over perfection.

We trust our people, encourage bold ideas, and believe success should never come at the cost of wellbeing or belonging.

The Role

This is where you come in.

As our Lead Platform Engineer, you’ll lead a dedicated platform engineering team and be a visible technical leader for Technology across the business.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll live our values and set the direction for the platform our delivery teams depend on every day.

This is an AI-first role with the scope to build and shape the Platform Team.

As Everflow moves to an AI-executed engineering model, you’ll own the platform our delivery teams build and ship software on — the AI code-generation toolchain they use every day and the deployment pipeline that takes their reviewed work to production.

You’ll also own the cloud platform and AI compute cost base it all runs on, manage supplier relationships, and help forecast and monitor budgeted costs.

In practice you’ll work across a mixed estate — greenfield AI workloads alongside established services we’re actively modernising, including .

NET Framework — taking an automation-first and AI-first approach to delivery and designing efficient, secure cloud solutions with security considered at every layer.

We’re a Microsoft house with a focus on staying cloud-agnostic as our technology and tooling evolve.

You’ll be based at our Peterlee (SR8 2RU) office two days a week under our hybrid working pattern, with support for occasional planned out-of-hours work, such as releases and other changes best made outside business hours.

  • What You’ll Do
  • You’ll be busy, challenged, and trusted to make a real difference. You’ll:
  • Lead and build our Platform Team.
  • Set the platform strategy, including the design of secure cloud solutions, working alongside our Enterprise and Solution Architects, and become the steward of our cloud infrastructure.
  • Work closely with Technology and Engineering leadership, contributing the platform and AI-execution perspective to our wider engineering and technology strategy — not just the Platform Team’s roadmap.
  • Own the infrastructure our AI-executed delivery model runs on, an down the selection and governance of our AI tool chain, including monitoring output quality, so the tools we adopt are safe, effective and fit for purpose.
  • Establish prompt-framework-as-code: versioned, tested and governed prompt libraries, treated with the same rigour as the rest of our codebase.
  • Govern AI compute as a distinct, material cost class, forecasting and monitoring its spend alongside our wider cloud costs.
  • Partner with our dedicated Security Engineers to embed security by design into our prompt frameworks, tool chain and deployment pipeline, building security in rather than owning risk sign-off.
  • Lead continual delivery with an automation-first approach, including how we deploy software through well-designed CI/CD pipelines.
  • Set and steward platform engineering standards, including golden paths, pavedroadsand reusable infrastructure patterns, to safeguard reliability, securityand overall system design.
  • Evaluatenew technologies, including AI services, to improve efficiency, securityand scalability, and build proofs of concept to support technology evaluation and product pipeline research.
  • Provideexpertisein enterprise authentication and identity security.
  • What We’re Looking For
  • We’re less about ticking boxes and more about finding the right person. You’ll probably:

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience leading a team and managing budgets and suppliers, working with both Technology and business roles to deliver strategic outcomes.
  • Experience operating in, or leading, an AI-assisted or AI-executed software delivery model, with strong judgement for supervising AI-generated work under ambiguity.
  • 5+ years in Dev Ops and cloud-native infrastructure development with a significant focus on Azure, including Azure Dev Ops.
  • Working knowledge of cloud security and Dev Sec Ops practices and tooling, sufficient to partner effectively with a dedicated security specialist embedding security by design.

How to prepare for a job interview at Everflow

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Everflow uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
