The Actuarial Function is instrumental in supporting and influencing the business and longer-term ambitions, with significant investment and wider Group collaboration in establishing a best-in-class actuarial set up.

Role Purpose: To help support and drive forward BAU and project initiatives, working collaboratively with other members of actuarial, finance, claims and underwriting teams. The role will have a broad remit across legal entities, actuarial disciplines, and quarterly reserving as well as project work and tools development. The candidate will have responsibility for owning key aspects of the quarterly reserving process, stakeholder management, syndicate reporting, inputs/validation to capital setting and working with the Actuarial Management team on analysis to generate and support reserving results and performance insights. The successful candidate will work with autonomy in a supportive and encouraging environment. Key Accountabilities

  • Production of syndicate deliverables and development of wider IW&S actuarial capabilities.
  • Quarterly reviews of reserves in respect of business written across international platforms including support setting of key actuarial assumptions and methods for both GAAP and SII purposes and reporting of results to key internal stakeholders, auditors, Group, Lloyd’s and PRA.
  • Contribute to reserving and capital discussions with underwriting, pricing, claims, finance and reinsurance to improve underwriting results.
  • Contribute to actuarial analysis which supports the business planning process and communicate the results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake regular portfolio analysis of classes and inputs to the performance board.
  • Collaborate with pricing actuaries and underwriters for sharing information, influencing and to support actuarial assumptions used.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Develop tools and outputs to leverage reserving data to inform underwriting performance.
  • Deliver insights and valuable MI to key stakeholders and senior management to ensure it is at the forefront of the industry and maintain commercial advantage.
  • Support the production of the actuarial function component reports.
  • Develop and comply with appropriate controls over model inputs, parameters, judgements and outputs.
  • As IW&S continues to grow and evolve, the successful applicant will be heavily involved in the wider actuarial team’s journey and evolution to deliver quality tools and insights.
  • Identifying, planning and leading the execution of future enhancements to the reserving and capital modelling tools, approaches and add-value proposition.
  • Modelling and coordinating inputs to parameter updates.
  • Business partnering (product, portfolio reviews, entity forums), underpinned by clear, commercial MI insights.

This role will be highly visible and integrated as part of the wider actuarial team, with opportunity to collaborate, learn and contribute across the functions and business.

Professional Experience

  • Nearly or Newly qualified Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) or similar.
  • Knowledge and experience of GI reserving and capital modelling approaches.
  • Experience of Lloyd’s reporting.
  • Proven ability of working independently and collaborating with others.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Maths, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Business or a similar field.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent IT skills, MS Excel, SQL, Power BI and ResQ.
  • Strong reserving skills and model building experience.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Keen desire to learn, develop and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to simply communicate modelling process and results with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and through reports or presentations.
  • A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work with a strong appetite to network, learn and develop.
