This role sits within a globally recognised automotive engineering, research, and test organisation, renowned for its contributions to the development of some of the world’s most iconic vehicles. The business operates cutting-edge engineering and testing facilities across a large technology park dedicated to mobility R&D. It partners with leading OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to support the full vehicle development lifecycle, from initial concept and simulation through to physical testing and validation.

The Electromobility Systems team plays a pivotal role in developing and optimising thermal and energy systems for the next generation of electric and hybrid vehicles.

We are seeking a Thermal Systems Engineer with a strong focus on thermal system testing and validation. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting bench and vehicle-based tests, working directly with customers, analysing thermal data, and generating technical reports. This role is ideal for someone with experience in EV thermal systems and ideally some exposure to thermal simulation tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up, execute, and monitor thermal systems tests (bench and climatic/vehicle)
  • Instrument and prepare automotive thermal systems for testing (A/C, heat pumps, battery cooling)
  • Collaborate closely with customers to define test requirements and deliverables
  • Analyse test data using thermodynamic tools and Excel
  • Produce clear, detailed technical reports with insights and recommendations
  • Contribute to ongoing development of test procedures and engineering best practices
  • Occasionally support simulation activities using tools such as GT-Suite or similar
Required Experience & Skills:
  • Strong background in automotive thermal systems, particularly in testing and validation
  • Practical knowledge of refrigerant systems (A/C and heat pumps)
  • Experience with test instrumentation, data collection, and analysis
  • Solid thermodynamics and heat transfer knowledge
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and general engineering tools
Desirable Experience:
  • Exposure to thermal simulation tools (e.g. GT-Suite, Simulink)
  • Experience in vehicle climatic testing
  • Understanding of BEV/FCEV architectures and energy management
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering principles and the V-cycle
  • Knowledge of cabin thermal comfort or HVAC software development
Candidate Profile:
  • Currently or previously in a similar role within an OEM, Tier 1 supplier, or engineering consultancy
  • EV automotive background is highly beneficial; related industries (e.g., aerospace, rail) may be considered
  • Able to work independently, manage time effectively, and communicate confidently with customers and internal teams
  • Must be willing to work on-site in Warwickshire up to 5 days per week (occasional remote flexibility)
Other Requirements:
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Thermal, or Electro-mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Full UK Driving License
