Senior Electromechanical Engineer – High-Power Systems - Remote - 6 Month Contract

Role: Senior Electromechanical Engineer – High-Power Systems

Contract: 6 months

Location: Remote, with travel to Belfast 2–3 times per month

Engagement: Contract

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Senior Electromechanical Engineer to support a technically advanced engineering programme focused on high-power electrical and charging systems.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong experience in the design and integration of high-power DC/AC power cabinets, switchgear and associated electromechanical systems.

The successful engineer will work closely with electrical, mechanical, controls and systems engineering teams, taking responsibility for the physical design, packaging and integration of complex high-power equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-power DC and AC electrical cabinets and assemblies.
  • Lead the electromechanical integration of switchgear, protection devices, busbars, power electronics and associated electrical equipment.
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD designs and layouts for electrical cabinets, enclosures and integrated systems.
  • Develop effective packaging solutions considering electrical, mechanical and thermal requirements.
  • Work closely with electrical engineering teams to translate electrical schematics and system requirements into practical physical designs.
  • Ensure appropriate consideration of HV clearances, creepage, isolation, accessibility and serviceability.
  • Support switchgear selection, packaging and integration.
  • Develop and maintain drawings, BOMs, specifications and other technical documentation.
  • Support design reviews and identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, manufacturability and maintainability.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve technical and production issues.
  • Support prototype build, system integration, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Strong commercial experience as a Senior Electromechanical Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or similar.
  • Demonstrable experience designing high-power DC and/or AC electrical cabinets.
  • Strong experience with switchgear design and physical integration.
  • Experience packaging high-power electrical components into complex cabinets or enclosures.
  • Strong 3D CAD/design capability, with experience producing detailed designs suitable for manufacture.
  • Good understanding of HV electrical systems and associated mechanical design considerations.
  • Experience taking designs from initial concept through detailed design, manufacture, assembly and integration.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of technically complex design activities.
  • High-power EV charging or charging infrastructure.
  • Power electronics, converters, inverters and DC distribution systems.
  • Busbar design and integration.
  • HV protection and isolation systems.
  • Thermal management of high-power electrical equipment.
  • Cable routing, harnessing and high-current electrical connections.
  • Relevant electrical safety, switchgear and enclosure standards.
  • Experience within automotive, marine, aerospace, energy or other advanced electrification environments.

Working Arrangement

The role will be predominantly remote, with travel to the Belfast HQ approximately 2–3 times per month for project meetings, design reviews and key integration activities.

This would suit a senior engineer who can operate independently and bring strong high-power DC/AC cabinet design, switchgear integration and 3D design expertise to a fast-paced engineering programme.
