An advanced engineering business specialising in vehicle electrification, low-volume vehicle programmes and bespoke automotive engineering solutions across both EV and ICE platforms. The company operates within a fast-moving engineering environment focused on developing high-quality, technically advanced vehicle systems and electrical architectures. With continued growth planned, they are now looking to strengthen their internal electrical engineering capability with a senior technical hire who can take full ownership of the electrical domain.

The Role

This is a senior, hands-on Electrical Engineering role responsible for leading the design, development and integration of low-voltage electrical systems across multiple vehicle programmes. Operating within a small engineering team, you will own the electrical function end-to-end, covering electrical architecture, harness design, schematics, PCB development, integration, testing and technical documentation. The role is heavily focused on practical engineering delivery and would suit someone comfortable working directly on vehicles, supporting prototype builds and making technical decisions within a fast-paced development environment. Longer-term, the role is expected to evolve into leadership of a wider Electrical Engineering team as the business continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of vehicle electrical systems across EV and ICE programmes
  • Own LV electrical architecture including:
    • Power distribution
    • Protection and fusing
    • Grounding strategy
    • Signal integrity considerations
  • Design complete vehicle wiring harnesses including:
    • Routing
    • Connector selection
    • Wire sizing
    • Terminal selection
    • Harness schedules
  • Produce electrical schematics and circuit designs
  • Support low-complexity PCB design including schematic capture and layout
  • Support hands-on prototype builds, vehicle integration and fault diagnosis activities
  • Develop and maintain electrical documentation including:
    • Schematics
    • Harness drawings
    • Test records
    • Design documentation
    • Engineering change records
  • Support compliance and type approval activities relating to electrical systems
  • Work closely with mechanical and software engineering teams throughout development programmes
  • Support supplier engagement, component selection and technical decision-making
  • Help establish engineering standards, processes and best practices for the electrical function

About You

  • Strong background within automotive or specialist vehicle electrical system design
  • Excellent understanding of:
    • Circuit analysis
    • Power distribution
    • Grounding strategies
    • Electrical protection systems
    • Signal integrity fundamentals
  • Proven wiring harness design experience within real vehicle environments
  • Experience with connector selection, wire sizing and harness routing
  • Experience producing electrical schematics and supporting PCB design activities
  • Hands-on engineer comfortable prototyping, testing and modifying electrical systems directly on vehicles
  • Comfortable operating within low-volume, prototype or fast-paced engineering environments
  • Strong technical ownership mindset with ability to make sound engineering decisions independently
  • Confident communicator able to contribute effectively during technical and cross-functional engineering reviews
  • Comfortable working closely with software and mechanical engineering teams

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Arcadia
  • Understanding of HV EV systems including:
    • Battery integration
    • HV distribution
    • Contactors
    • Pre-charge systems
    • Isolation monitoring
  • Knowledge of CAN bus and vehicle communication systems
  • EMC / EMI awareness within automotive environments
  • Exposure to ISO 26262 or functional safety principles
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or helping develop engineering teams
