About the company
Our client is an international provider of electric vehicle charging and energy management solutions, delivering charging hardware alongside integrated software and energy management technology.
The business is looking for a driven, commercially focused Senior Business Development Manager to support the continued growth of its DC charging business across the UK.
This is predominantly a new-business position, suited to a proactive salesperson who enjoys opening doors, developing strategic relationships and winning complex B2B opportunities.
The role
The position will be approximately 80% new business development and 20% management and growth of existing accounts.
You will inherit relationships with established UK customers while taking responsibility for expanding the company's presence across the wider DC charging market.
The focus is on identifying new opportunities, approaching prospective partners, building senior-level relationships and converting these into long-term commercial partnerships.
You will primarily be selling to businesses that deploy, integrate or provide charging solutions to their own customers, making experience within a B2B or B2B2B technical sales environment particularly relevant.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and win new business opportunities across the UK DC EV charging market.
- Build relationships with CPOs, fleet operators, major installers, contractors and other charging infrastructure partners.
- Manage and grow a smaller portfolio of existing strategic accounts.
- Take ownership of the full sales cycle, from prospecting and initial engagement through to technical discussions, commercial negotiation and close.
- Build relationships with senior decision-makers, including C-level stakeholders.
- Understand customer requirements and communicate complex technical products and solutions in a clear, commercially relevant way.
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of new opportunities across the UK.
- Work closely with technical, product and commercial teams to develop appropriate solutions for customers.
- Monitor developments across DC charging, fleet electrification and the wider EV infrastructure market.
- Attend customer meetings and travel throughout the UK as required.
- Maintain accurate pipeline and opportunity information through Salesforce.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience in B2B sales, business development or technical sales, with a strong focus on winning new business.
- A strong new-business mentality, with evidence of proactively creating opportunities rather than solely managing inherited accounts.
- Experience selling complex technical products or solutions.
- Confidence engaging and building relationships with senior and C-level stakeholders.
- Strong commercial communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- The ability to understand technical concepts and communicate them clearly to customers.
- A proactive, resilient and self-motivated approach.
- Strong organisational and pipeline management skills.
- The ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with a wider international team.
- Experience using CRM platforms such as Salesforce is advantageous.
Direct EV charging experience would be advantageous, particularly within DC charging, but is not essential.
The business is open to strong technical salespeople from adjacent industries where they have experience selling complex products or solutions within a B2B environment.
Relevant backgrounds could include
- EV charging hardware and infrastructure
- DC charging
- Electrical infrastructure
- Power and energy technology
- Solar and renewable energy equipment
- Technical hardware
- Integrated hardware, firmware and software solutions
- Other complex B2B technical products
The priority is finding someone who can proactively create and win new business, understand technically complex products and build credible relationships with sophisticated commercial partners.
There is a high level of autonomy around managing your diary, customer visits and office time.
