A fast-growing engineering and technology business within the high-performance automotive and electrification sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of next-generation electric vehicle platforms and systems. The business specialises in advanced vehicle engineering, electrification, and bespoke automotive programmes, combining modern EV technology with iconic vehicle platforms. Due to continued growth and project demand, they are expanding their engineering team and looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support vehicle and subsystem development activities.

The Role

You will play a key role in the mechanical design and development of automotive systems and components across a range of electrification and vehicle engineering programmes. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will support projects from concept design through to prototype build, validation, and production release. This role would suit someone with strong automotive mechanical design experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design & Product Development
    • Develop mechanical designs and detailed CAD models for automotive systems and components
    • Produce engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
    • Support full product lifecycle activities from concept through to production
    • Design components with consideration for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost
  • Vehicle & Systems Integration
    • Work closely with electrical, systems, manufacturing, and prototype build teams
    • Support packaging and integration of vehicle systems including battery, cooling, chassis, and powertrain components
    • Participate in design reviews and engineering change activities
    • Support prototype builds, validation, and issue resolution
  • Validation & Engineering Support
    • Support testing, validation, and continuous improvement activities
    • Conduct tolerance analysis and engineering calculations where required
    • Support supplier engagement and component development activities
    • Ensure designs comply with automotive engineering and safety standards

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Strong experience within automotive mechanical design environments
  • Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or Siemens NX
  • Experience developing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA principles and manufacturing processes
  • Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills
  • Comfortable working within fast-paced engineering and prototype environments

Highly Desirable

  • EV, motorsport, high-performance automotive, or electrification experience
  • Vehicle packaging and integration experience
  • Prototype build and validation exposure
  • Experience supporting low-volume or bespoke vehicle programmes
  • FEA or thermal analysis experience
