About the Role

A well-established and growing wind turbine service and maintenance business is looking to bring in two experienced Wind Turbine Technicians on a contract basis across North East Scotland. The scope of work is broad and varied, covering scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, fault finding, refurbishment, repowering and decommissioning projects across a predominantly Vestas portfolio including V27, V29, V39, V44, V47 and V52 platforms. The two technicians will work as a pair, with the company vehicle taken home and sites tackled in clusters across the region. Expect a couple of nights away per week as standard, working through turbine clusters before moving on. This is a varied, hands-on contract with a technically strong team that takes pride in quality workmanship and a strong safety culture. Contractors with offshore wind experience looking to pick up onshore work are very welcome to get in touch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled and unscheduled servicing, maintenance, inspections, fault finding and repairs on wind turbines and their electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Complete weekly, monthly and annual service schedules as directed by the Operations Manager, including approved overtime and working away when required.
  • Replace faulty components, including sensors, control systems and gearboxes, in line with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities to minimise downtime and maximise turbine performance and efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyse turbine performance data to identify trends and implement practical solutions.
  • Manage vehicle stock levels and maintain an up-to-date inventory of parts, tools and consumables.
  • Produce accurate service, inspection and maintenance reports using company reporting systems.
  • Support turbine decommissioning and repowering projects as required.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with current health and safety legislation, site rules and company procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience as a Wind Turbine Technician, ideally working on Vestas turbine platforms.
  • Relevant technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Renewable Energy Engineering.
  • Ability to pass a RenewableUK (RUK) Wind Industry Standard medical assessment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Comfortable working at height and in challenging weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work away from home for a couple of nights per week when required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with managers, colleagues and clients.
  • Confident in producing reports and providing regular updates on maintenance activities and site performance.

Desirable Certifications

  • GWO Working at Height
  • GWO Manual Handling
  • GWO First Aid
  • GWO Fire Awareness
  • Wind Turbine Safety Rules
