We are supporting a rapidly growing engineering and infrastructure business delivering renewable energy and EV charging projects across the UK. The business operates nationally across electrical infrastructure, renewables and energy solutions, with a dedicated clean energy division focused on the deployment of commercial EV charging infrastructure and associated electrical upgrades.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire an experienced Contracts Manager to lead and manage their EV charging and renewables division, taking ownership of day-to-day operations, team management and commercial delivery. This is an excellent opportunity to join a scaling clean energy business and play a key leadership role across high-profile EV infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

The Role

The Contracts Manager will act as the department lead, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the EV charging division including workload management, team coordination and client relations. You will manage in-house civil engineers and electricians, support and oversee Project Managers, and act as the primary operational escalation point across live projects and contracts. This position would suit someone with a strong electrical industry background and hands-on experience within EV charging, solar or battery storage environments who is ready to step into a senior leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Department Leadership & Operations
    • Take ownership of the day-to-day running of the EV charging and renewables division
    • Manage workload distribution, scheduling and resource planning across in-house teams
    • Oversee and support Project Managers in the delivery of live projects
    • Organise engineer training, development and operational readiness
    • Drive operational improvements and scalable delivery processes
  • Team Management
    • Directly manage in-house civil engineers and electricians
    • Coordinate team deployment across multiple concurrent projects
    • Support recruitment, onboarding and team development activities
    • Monitor team performance and ensure high standards of delivery
  • Commercial & Contract Management
    • Prepare quotations for remedials, lifecycle upgrades, variations and additional works
    • Manage change control and variation processes across live contracts
    • Support cost tracking, margin protection and commercial governance
    • Maintain accurate contract records, documentation and approvals
  • Client & Stakeholder Management
    • Act as the primary point of contact for key clients across operational and commercial matters
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and delivery partners
    • Manage customer communication, reporting and service updates
    • Support customer retention and long-term account development
  • CDM & Compliance
    • Act as or support the Principal Contractor representative ensuring full CDM 2015 compliance across all project phases
    • Ensure projects are delivered in line with company H&S procedures and industry regulations
    • Review RAMS, permits and compliance documentation
    • Promote safe working practices across all project and operational activities
    • Support audits, inspections and operational compliance requirements
  • Civil & Electrical Coordination
    • Coordinate and manage both civils and electrical workstreams across concurrent project phases
    • Ensure programme alignment between civil and electrical disciplines
    • Support planning, scheduling and site readiness across all active projects

Experience Required

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Contracts Manager, Senior Project Manager or similar leadership role
  • Strong electrical industry background with experience in EV charging, solar or battery storage environments
  • Experience directly managing in-house engineering teams including civil and electrical disciplines
  • Strong commercial awareness including change control, cost management and margin protection
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience coordinating multiple concurrent projects and operational teams
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving capability
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Highly Desirable Experience

  • EV charging infrastructure experience as primary specialism
  • Solar PV or BESS project exposure
  • Familiarity with NEC, JCT or FIDIC contract principles
  • Experience within fast-paced electrical contracting or infrastructure environments
  • CRM or project management system experience
