We are working with a fast-growing energy and sustainability consultancy supporting large UK real estate portfolios to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. The business delivers an integrated approach that combines energy procurement, demand-side optimisation, and flexibility services. By aligning intelligent supply contracts with active energy management, including BMS control, load shifting, batteries, and grid services, clients achieve better financial and carbon outcomes than with traditional procurement-only models.
This role will lead the development and delivery of energy procurement and flexibility services across the UK market.
The Role
As Head of Energy Procurement & Flexibility, you will be responsible for building and running a market-leading procurement and demand management offering for commercial real estate clients. This is a senior, commercially focused role combining strategy, client advisory, and internal capability building, working closely with technical, data, and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Energy Procurement
- Develop and execute energy procurement strategies (power, gas, water) across large, multi-site portfolios
- Lead supplier tenders, contract negotiations, PPAs, and ongoing contract performance
- Analyse tariffs, risk management approaches, and forward market movements
- Procure energy aligned with best-practice sustainability standards (e.g. renewable-backed supply, time-matched PPAs, additionality)
- Apply tenant recharge methodologies and pricing strategies where relevant
- Measurement & Verification
- Integrate procurement outcomes with energy data and reporting platforms
- Work with engineering and data teams to reconcile consumption data with billing
- Verify savings and performance against contract expectations
- Produce clear, ESG-aligned reporting for clients
- Flexibility & Asset Integration
- Understand how demand-side flexibility, batteries, and distributed generation impact procurement decisions
- Support the valuation and monetisation of flexibility through grid services, dynamic tariffs, and peak avoidance
- Identify and develop commercial models for flexibility participation (e.g. virtual power plants, balancing services)
- Client Advisory
- Act as a senior advisor to commercial real estate clients
- Present clear insights on market movements, pricing risk, and performance
- Support clients’ net zero strategies, compliance requirements, and long-term energy planning
Ideal Background
You are likely to come from one of the following backgrounds:
- Energy supplier, trader, or aggregator (procurement, trading, risk, or flexibility)
- Energy procurement or sustainability consultancy
- In-house energy or utilities role within real estate, facilities management, or large estates
You will have strong exposure to:
- UK energy markets and non-commodity cost structures
- Procurement strategy and supplier negotiations
- Energy data, reporting, and performance management
Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial understanding of UK energy markets and regulation
- Familiarity with flexibility markets, asset control platforms, and BMS data
- Highly analytical, with the ability to translate complex data into clear commercial strategy
- Confident communicator, comfortable engaging both technical teams and senior commercial stakeholders
- Entrepreneurial mindset, suited to a growth-stage environment
Personality Fit
- Commercially sharp and commercially accountable
- Technically curious, keen to connect energy assets, data, and markets
- Collaborative and comfortable working across disciplines
- Builder mentality – motivated by shaping and scaling a new service line
