Head of Legal – Solar Clean Energy -South East England – £100k
A leading innovator in renewable technology is entering an exciting phase of growth and commercialisation. To support this next chapter, the business is looking to appoint a Head of Legal to lead and manage all legal functions across the organisation.
This is a key senior role in the company, acting as the primary advisor on all legal and regulatory matters. The successful candidate will bring broad commercial legal expertise, with proven experience across contract law, intellectual property, compliance, and risk management. The role requires prior in-house legal experience, ideally within a dynamic, fast-paced industry environment, and confidence handling matters across multiple jurisdictions including the UK, US, and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
As Head of Legal, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality legal guidance across the business, enabling risk-aware decision making and supporting commercial growth.
Typical duties will include:
- Acting as a trusted legal advisor to the executive leadership and senior management team
- Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements
- Advising on corporate transactions and supporting strategic partnerships or new business initiatives
- Overseeing legal compliance across operations, ensuring alignment with relevant laws and regulations
- Identifying legal risks and implementing mitigation strategies
- Leading on dispute resolution and litigation matters, working with external counsel when required
- Managing due diligence processes for investments and strategic projects
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with external legal advisors, ensuring cost-effective support

The Ideal Candidate:
Essential:
- UK-qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 5 years post-qualification experience
- Previous in-house legal experience, ideally in a commercial or technology-focused business
- Strong working knowledge of UK, US, and European legal frameworks
- Expertise in contract law, intellectual property, compliance, and risk management
- Strategic thinking and the ability to align legal advice with business goals
- Proactive problem solver with excellent judgement and risk awareness
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills across all business levels
- Ability to work autonomously and make sound legal decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
