About the Role
EVEREC is recruiting on behalf of a Charge Point Operator for a dynamic and experienced Head of Design to lead and develop the CAD and design teams with a strong focus on electrical and utility design principles. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of EV charging infrastructure, ensuring that all projects meet the highest industry standards while driving innovation and efficiency. You will be responsible for managing a team of designers, overseeing project workflows, and collaborating with executive leadership to refine and implement best practices in electrical and utility infrastructure design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of CAD designers and technicians, ensuring the delivery of high-quality EV site designs.
- Oversee the end-to-end design process, from electrical and utility planning through to construction drawings and as-built records.
- Establish and maintain design standards, workflows, and best practices with a focus on electrical infrastructure and utility connections.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, engineers, and project managers to develop innovative, scalable, and cost-effective utility and electrical design solutions.
- Ensure all designs comply with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices, particularly in electrical and utility infrastructure.
- Review and approve site layout designs for both LV and HV connected EV charging locations.
- Work closely with planning teams to create high-quality indicative layouts and planning drawings incorporating utility requirements and electrical distribution.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging new design technologies and software to enhance team productivity, particularly in electrical and utility network design.
- Manage design documentation and ensure seamless collaboration between internal teams and external stakeholders, with a focus on utility coordination and power distribution.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Head of Design, Lead CAD Designer, or similar senior role, ideally in the EV, electrical infrastructure, or utility sector.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a growing design team.
- Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, or other industry-standard design software with a focus on electrical and utility infrastructure.
- In-depth understanding of electrical infrastructure, LV/HV connections, utility distribution, and construction principles.
- Demonstrated experience in site layout design, electrical planning, and utility coordination for EV charging or similar infrastructure projects.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset for innovation and process optimisation in utility and electrical design.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Knowledge of UK planning regulations, electrical safety codes, and utility industry standards.
