CNC Engineer – Norfolk – £DOE
One of our key clients in the EV and electric powertrain sector, based in Norfolk, is hiring a CNC Engineer to support the prototyping and development of cutting-edge electric motors and drive systems.
The CNC Engineer will work within a high-performance machine shop environment, taking responsibility for the quick turnaround manufacture of precision components to support new product development projects. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, collaborating with engineers, and working to tight tolerances and deadlines.
Role: CNC Engineer (Prototyping)
Location: Norfolk (Hethel Engineering Centre)
Salary: DOE
Working Arrangement: 5 days per week on site
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong background in CNC machining with ability to program, set, and operate 3 & 4 axis CNC machines (G-code and conversational)
- Experience using CNC Mill-turn and Vertical Machining Centres (VMCs)
- Solid knowledge of tooling, cutting speeds, feeds, and material properties
- Ability to interpret complex 2D technical drawings and 3D CAD models
- Experience of First Article Inspection (FAI) processes and use of metrology equipment
- Comfortable advising engineers on design-for-manufacture and proposing design tweaks
- Experience working in a fast-paced prototyping or NPI environment
- Familiar with CAD/CAM systems and general workshop equipment
- Strong understanding of machining best practices, safety, and Total Productive Maintenance
- Ability to work to 5S / ETA 7S standards and contribute to process improvements
Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture precision prototype components from engineering drawings for R&D and internal projects
- Liaise closely with project engineers to ensure component suitability, tolerance accuracy and timely delivery
- Program, set and operate CNC machines to produce low-volume, high-complexity parts
- Conduct first article inspections and ensure parts meet all specifications
- Perform preventive maintenance and machine checks to minimise downtime
- Maintain a safe, clean and well-organised machine shop environment
- Suggest improvements to machining processes, tool selection, and workshop efficiency
- Provide support during the design phase to ensure components can be machined in-house
- Contribute to the implementation and development of NPI strategies and production methods
