When an EV charger develops a fault, the first step is usually remote: reviewing charger logs, platform data and diagnostic alerts to understand what has gone wrong. But not every fault can be resolved that way. Where the issue lies in the physical hardware, this role requires the ability to attend the unit directly, diagnose the fault at component level, and carry out the repair.
This is a hands-on technical role combining both sides of fault resolution: interpreting back-office and platform data to understand a fault, and the practical, physical capability to open, inspect, diagnose and repair the charger itself when required. Candidates should be equally comfortable working through platform diagnostics and getting hands-on with the hardware.
You will work closely with the Technical Director, providing a technical resource for Customer Service, supporting new product testing, and improving reliability by identifying root causes rather than treating individual symptoms in isolation.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose EV charger faults using platform data, charger logs and remote monitoring tools
- Attend chargers on site where a fault cannot be resolved remotely, diagnosing and repairing the hardware directly
- Provide technical escalation support to Customer Service on issues beyond first-line resolution
- Test new charger hardware and firmware ahead of release
- Investigate returned units to identify root cause and feed findings back into product improvement
- Work closely with the Technical Director to support ongoing product reliability and development
About You
- Genuine hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing faults on EV chargers or comparable electrical/electronic hardware, not solely remote or platform-based diagnostics
- Comfortable working with both back-office/platform diagnostic tools and physical hardware fault-finding
- An electrical or electronics background is preferred, whether through formal qualification or equivalent hands-on experience
- A methodical, root-cause approach to fault-finding
- Able to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical colleagues
- Full UK driving licence, for occasional site visits

- Primarily office based in Manchester, with occasional travel to site where required
- Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Reports to the Technical Director
- 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, with an additional day per year of service (up to 25 days)
