About Our Client: Our client is a large UK-wide rapid charging network for electric vehicles (EVs). They fund, install, and manage their network in partnership.
Role Overview: The Construction Manager is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of our client's EV charging sites across the North of England, from development through to site opening. The successful candidate will manage sites end to end, keeping projects running to time and to brief, and will have the authority to stop a site opening if it isn’t up to standard. This is a hands-on role: the candidate will be out driving to sites regularly, working directly with contractors and ICPs, and owning the practical detail of getting things done on the ground.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Delivery: Lead the construction phase of ultra-rapid EV charging sites from mobilisation through to handover, managing sites from development through to opening.
- Programme & Brief Compliance: Keep projects running to time and in line with the brief, managing changes so they’re actioned promptly, and holding back any site from opening that doesn’t meet standards.
- Project Design Development: Support the development team using skills, knowledge and experience to review and advise on the buildability and constructability of new sites.
- Contractor & ICP Management: Manage and coordinate contractors, ICPs, and suppliers across the North to ensure effective site execution and compliance with scope and specifications.
- Health, Safety & Environment: Ensure all works are delivered to the highest HSE standards, maintaining compliance with CDM Regulations and company policy.
- Programme & Budget Control: Monitor progress, costs, and resource allocation, proactively addressing issues to protect delivery targets.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee construction quality, ensuring works meet design intent, standards, and client expectations.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with development, grid, and design teams to ensure smooth project transitions and timely site delivery.
- Reporting: Provide clear and accurate updates on site progress against programme, risks, budget, and performance metrics.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience delivering multi-site construction projects, ideally in EV infrastructure, utilities, or renewable energy.
- ICP management experience is desirable.
- Ultra-rapid DC EV charging experience is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of construction HSE requirements and CDM Regulations.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills with a focus on delivery and accountability.
- Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites regularly (2 to 3 days per week).
- Effective communicator, able to build positive relationships with internal teams, external contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborative and solution-oriented, able to anticipate challenges and drive practical resolutions.
- Calm and decisive under pressure, with a proactive approach to safety, quality, and problem-solving.
- Open on overall years of experience. The client is more interested in the right skills and approach than a specific number of years.
Desirable:
- Experience with EV charging or electrical infrastructure projects.
- Relevant qualifications in construction management, engineering, or project management.
- SMSTS or equivalent site management certification.
Career Pathway: It’s a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience and exposure in a supportive, safe environment, with a clear route to grow into the role over time.

- EV company car, or car allowance of £500 per month
