Working closely with engineering and production teams, you will play an important role in supporting product development, improving manufacturing processes and ensuring components are produced to a high standard.

This opportunity would suit a skilled machinist who enjoys technical challenges, takes pride in their work and wants to contribute beyond day-to-day machine operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate and maintain CNC milling and turning machines, alongside conventional manual mills and lathes.

  • Manufacture precision components from engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Utilise CAM software to support machining operations, including toolpath preparation, verification and execution.

  • Carry out machine setups, including workholding, datum setting and work offsets.

  • Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds, speeds and machining strategies for different materials.

  • Machine a variety of engineering materials, including metals, alloys and plastics.

  • Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring equipment to ensure components meet required tolerances.

  • Identify and resolve machining or quality issues, including component rework where necessary.

  • Support the maintenance and general upkeep of machinery and workshop equipment.

  • Collaborate with engineers to improve component designs, manufacturability and production efficiency.

  • Assist with mechanical assembly, prototype builds and wider workshop activities when required.

  • Contribute to workshop improvements, equipment installations and coordination with external suppliers or contractors.

  • Take a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

Skills & Experience

  • Years' experience in CNC machining, precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment.

  • Strong practical experience operating CNC mills and/or lathes.

  • Experience using manual milling and turning equipment.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and manufacturing tolerances.

  • Understanding of CAM software, machining setups, cutting tools, feeds and speeds.

  • Experience machining a range of engineering materials.

  • Competence using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges and dial indicators.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality components.

  • A practical engineering background, ideally supported by an apprenticeship or relevant technical qualification.

  • Experience with Hurco CNC machinery or WinMax controls.

  • Familiarity with CNC laser cutting or pipe-bending equipment.

  • Experience manufacturing prototypes, one-off components or low-volume production parts.

  • Previous involvement in mechanical assembly, equipment builds or workshop installations.

  • Experience working closely with design engineers to improve manufacturability.

  • A genuine interest in hands-on engineering, including personal projects, fabrication or mechanical builds.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to suggest improvements and resolve technical challenges independently.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary of £40,000-£60,000 depending on experience.

  • Generous annual leave arrangements.

  • Relocation support where applicable.

  • Access to modern, high-quality manufacturing machinery and equipment.

  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging engineering projects.
