We're recruiting on behalf of a rapidly growing international engineering business supporting major projects across the energy and industrial sectors.

As part of a significant growth and transformation programme, they're expanding their technical capability across grid infrastructure, power generation, hydrogen, carbon capture, industrial energy recovery, water treatment and nuclear.

They're now looking for Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Applications Engineers to join the technical arm of their Sales team, developing electrical concepts and technical solutions for complex energy and industrial projects from initial customer enquiry through to proposal and contract award.

What you'll do

  • Develop preliminary electrical concepts and technical solutions during the sales and bid phase
  • Carry out electrical engineering calculations and assess project power requirements
  • Support solutions involving power distribution systems, MCCs, control panels, instrumentation, PLC/control systems and electrical auxiliaries
  • Develop preliminary designs, single-line diagrams, load schedules, equipment specifications and cable schedules
  • Review customer specifications, electrical schematics, drawings, data sheets and international standards
  • Support equipment selection across voltage levels, protection, controls, instrumentation and electrical interfaces
  • Prepare technical documentation and specifications to enable accurate project costing
  • Coordinate cost estimates for electrical equipment and systems
  • Produce detailed technical and commercial proposals
  • Liaise with electrical equipment manufacturers, suppliers and specialist controls/automation partners
  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Project Management and Supply Chain teams
  • Attend customer meetings in the UK and internationally

What you'll bring

  • A strong understanding of electrical engineering principles
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems, AC/DC systems, power distribution, protection and control systems
  • 2+ years' experience within Applications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Technical Sales, Proposals, Design or a similar technical role
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and schematics
  • Experience developing technical solutions, concepts or proposals
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Commercial awareness, or an interest in developing within a customer‑facing/commercial engineering environment
  • HND or equivalent engineering qualification, ideally within Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; a degree would be advantageous

Nice to have

  • HV/LV or industrial power distribution experience
  • MCCs, switchgear or control panels
  • PLCs, controls, instrumentation or automation
  • Single-line diagrams, load schedules, cable sizing and protection systems
  • Power generation or packaged/modular equipment experience
  • Experience within grid infrastructure, hydrogen, carbon capture, energy recovery, industrial water or nuclear

Closely related backgrounds across HV infrastructure, electrical distribution, industrial power, controls and wider energy infrastructure are also very relevant.

This is an opportunity to join a growing international engineering group at an exciting stage of its development, with significant investment being made into its energy and technical sales capability.

The role is based in Derbyshire, with office‑based working preferred due to the collaborative and technical nature of the position. There may be some flexibility for particularly experienced candidates with highly relevant industry knowledge.

Salary is £30,000 to £50,000 depending on experience (DOE), with flexibility for an exceptional candidate.
