We are supporting a rapidly growing global battery technology and manufacturing business in appointing a Senior Legal Counsel to support its UK operations. Backed by significant multinational investment, the business is expanding its R&D and manufacturing capabilities across the UK and internationally. This is an opportunity to join at a defining stage of growth and play an important role in supporting a complex, fast-moving organisation.

Important travel requirement: This role requires one week of business travel per month to Somerset. All travel and accommodation expenses will be fully covered.

The Role

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will act as a trusted legal adviser across the company's UK functions, with a primary focus on commercial and contract law. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts
  • Advising on procurement, supplier, service and strategic partnership agreements
  • Providing practical guidance on general corporate, governance and regulatory matters
  • Identifying legal and commercial risks and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Supporting internal stakeholders with day-to-day legal queries
  • Providing guidance on employment, property and compliance matters where required
  • Supporting the management of contractual claims and disputes
  • Maintaining appropriate legal documentation and records
  • Working closely with procurement, R&D, engineering, manufacturing, HR and senior leadership teams

About You

You will be a commercially minded and pragmatic legal professional who can operate independently, manage competing priorities and translate complex legal issues into clear business advice. You will ideally have:

  • Qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales
  • Current SRA registration and a valid practising certificate
  • Strong commercial and contract-law experience
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • Broad general corporate and commercial legal knowledge
  • The ability to manage transactions and legal matters with minimal supervision
  • Experience advising senior stakeholders on legal risk
  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Experience gained in-house, within a law firm, or through a combination of both
  • Availability to undertake one week of business travel to Somerset each month
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, automotive, energy, technology or another fast-growing international business would be advantageous but is not essential.
