An experienced

Head of Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental is required to lead and develop a specialist engineering function within a growing consultancy environment.

This role sits within the Senior Management Team, providing strategic, technical and people leadership while shaping the future direction of the department.

The position focuses on delivering high-quality consultancy services, strengthening client relationships and supporting business growth across residential, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

The Head of Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental will

  • Provide strategic leadership across geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering activities.
  • Lead the delivery of projects from feasibility through design, construction support and close-out.
  • Ensure technical excellence and compliance with relevant standards, legislation and best practice.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the team, supporting capability growth and performance.
  • Manage workload, resource planning, budgets and financial performance across the department.
  • Support bids, proposals and client engagement activities to drive sustainable business growth.

The Head of Geotechnical & Geo-Environmental Engineering will have

  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in senior or leadership roles within geotechnical and/or geo-environmental engineering.
  • Strong technical expertise across ground investigation, foundations, earthworks, slope stability and contaminated land.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams, complex projects and senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness including bids, fee proposals, margins and resource planning.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and decision-making capability under pressure.
