We are currently looking for a Process Safety Engineer for our client, a global battery organisation designing, developing, and manufacturing high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries. This role focuses on ensuring safe, compliant and efficient design across engineering programmes, working closely with internal teams to embed best practice, manage risk and drive a strong culture of process safety throughout project delivery.
The Process Safety Engineer will:
- Coordinate and provide expert technical support in process safety areas e.g. ATEX/DSEAR risk assessment, hazardous area classification, safe handling of combustible dusts, control of electrostatic hazards.
- Support compliance activities including COMAH and other applicable consents.
- Review specifications, design, and supply of equipment to ensure compliance with safety, permitting, and company procedures.
- Support the execution of process risk assessments and hazard analysis exercises, which underpin the delivery of a safe design (including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA).
- Interpret and communicate complex requirements to the wider team to ensure understanding and buy-in.
The Process Safety Engineer will have:
- Bachelors degree in related engineering subject (e.g. Chemical Engineering).
- Proven process safety experience in a high-hazard or COMAH regulated environment.
- Strong level of knowledge of process safety legislation, codes of practices and standards (e.g. DSEAR, pressure relief).
- Understanding and experience of QRA techniques and analysis e.g. consequence modelling, OBRA.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, troubleshooting, root cause analysis with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
