About the Job

This Agricultural Lawyer job in Kendal, Cumbria offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of rural clients including farming families, landowners and rural businesses across the South Lakes. You will manage a varied caseload while developing strong client relationships within the agricultural sector. Your work will include a mix of transactional, advisory and client relationship responsibilities.

  • Agricultural Property Transactions
    • Advising on the sale and purchase of farms, agricultural land and rural property
    • Handling rural property matters including unregistered land and complex titles
    • Drafting and negotiating documentation relating to land rights, including easements and wayleaves
  • Rural and Agricultural Advisory Work
    • Advising farming clients on agricultural tenancies and licensing arrangements
    • Supporting farming families with succession planning and long‑term land ownership structures
    • Preparing and advising on farm partnership agreements and related rural business arrangements
  • Client Relationships and Team Collaboration
    • Building long‑term relationships with farming clients, land agents and rural professionals
    • Working closely with colleagues across the wider property and private client teams
    • Contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the agricultural law team

About You

This opportunity would suit a solicitor who enjoys working closely with rural communities and building trusted relationships with farming clients and landowners. You will be someone who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical and approachable manner when advising on complex rural matters. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 5 years PQE.

  • Key Qualifications and Skills
    • Experience handling agricultural or rural property transactions involving farms, land or estates
    • Knowledge of agricultural tenancies and occupation arrangements affecting farmland
    • Experience drafting or advising on land rights such as easements or wayleaves
    • Understanding of succession planning considerations within farming families or rural businesses
    • Confidence communicating complex legal issues in a clear and practical way
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload
    • Commercial awareness and an understanding of the challenges facing rural clients
    • A collaborative approach and genuine interest in supporting the wider team
