Band 4 Nursing Associate

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Registered Nurse Associate within our Children's Community Nursing Care Team, covering a 7 day a week service. Core hours of the service are 08:30-16:30.

The post holder will support children and families alongside the multi-disciplinary team with their caseload consisting of children or young people, some of whom will have very complex healthcare needs. Emphasis will be on the quality of care for the child and families. Duties will include delivery of clinical care within the home or clinic environment, by completing tasks such as blood taking, injections, wound care, teaching, nasogastric and gastrostomy support.

We are looking for candidates with a passion for Community Nursing, who really want to make a difference to improve quality for children and young people on the Paediatric Community Nursing caseload.

Job Responsibilities:

• Act in the best interest of children/young people in their care, demonstrating a positive attitude towards working with children/young people with learning disabilities and/or complex health needs.

• Assist with health assessments and health care planning for children on the community children's nursing caseload and review as needs or treatment changes.
• Assist with the education, health care plans (EHCP) process.
• Assist with continence assessments and referrals.
• Support nursing input into specialist clinic/nurse led clinics.
• Undertake specific clinical skills including administration of medication in the form of an injection with or without a device, finger tip bloods, and support of children requiring enteral feeds.
• Recognise deterioration in physical health with an ability to complete clinical observations, recognise abnormalities and respond appropriately.
• Assist in airway management techniques and respond appropriately to emergencies.
• Assist in the management of established wounds adhering to treatment, assessment and care plans.
• Develop skills in relation to supervision of junior staff, students and support teaching and training of individuals/carers/other staff/new members of the team.
• Engage in clinical supervision and reflective practice.
• Communicate effectively across a wide range of channels and with a wide range of individuals.
• Ensure child/young person related information is treated sensitively and adhere to the principles of confidentiality at all times.
• Report any accidents or incidents and raise any concerns as per organisational policy.
• Ensure clear, concise, accurate and legible clinical records and all communication is maintained in relation to care delivered.
• Exercise personal responsibility and work independently within defined parameters of practice.
• Adhere to lone working policy and complete home risk assessments to ensure safety.

Person Specification:

• Essential Qualifications / Training: Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register, Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification, GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or functional skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent.
• Experience: Relevant experience of working with children with complex health needs and/or disabilities.
• Skills/Knowledge: Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate and how the role may contribute to service development.
• Personal Qualities: Ability to take part in reflective practice and clinical supervision activities, organise and prioritise own delegated workload, and communicate effectively with children/young people, parents/carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
