Preceptorship opportunity for an 8B Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology based at Moseley Hall Hospital, Birmingham. Candidates wishing to work less than 37.5 hours per week are encouraged to contact us for an informal discussion. The successful applicant will join the organisation as an 8B Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology, with a supported preceptorship into an 8C Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist position once appropriate competencies have been achieved.

Job Summary

A rare opportunity to join our neuropsychology and rehabilitation services. The postholder will work within Level 1 Inpatient Neurorehabilitation, Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation, Community and Outpatient rehabilitation services, and a specialist vocational pathway. Leadership, supervision and management in the Neuropsychology service are key aspects of this role alongside provision of clinical services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a Clinical Psychology Service commensurate with a post graduate doctoral level of training and further specialist training and experience.
  • Ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist clinical psychology service to adults with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions.
  • Supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the team.
  • Support proposals and implementation of policy changes within the area served by the service. Be accountable for the direct delivery of clinical services to clients, their families and carers.
  • Line‑manage Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists.
  • Provide specialist highly complex psychological assessments of clients, integrating data from neuropsychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi‑structured interviews.
  • Develop highly complex formulations and implement plans for the formal neuropsychological treatment and/or management of clients’ complex psychological problems.
  • Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining formulations as appropriate.
  • Exercise responsibility for systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/team.
  • Act as a senior clinician in developing a high‑quality, responsive and accessible service, advising service and professional management on psychological and organisational matters.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post‑graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and at least two distinct psychological therapies.
  • Postgraduate diploma or equivalent accounting for the underpinning knowledge component of specialist training in Clinical Neuropsychology.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • SRCN eligibility or willingness to work towards it through the completion of practice component of relevant training.
  • Significant assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, including with adults with ABI and other neurological conditions.
  • Experience of working across a wide variety of client groups and care settings, exercising full clinical responsibility within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
  • Experience working within a multicultural framework.

Skills

  • Well‑developed theoretical and practical knowledge of the field of clinical psychology, consistent with doctoral level training and further post‑qualification study.
  • Expertise in complex psychological assessment methods, including specialist clinical interviewing, behavioural observation, psychometric and neuropsychological testing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to communicate sensitive clinical information to clients, families, carers and professional colleagues.
  • Ability to formulate problems from a psychological perspective and implement advanced specialist therapy and management techniques for complex presenting problems.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the client group.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Ability to develop and use complex multimedia materials for presentations.
