Job Summary

Outstanding clinical nurse leader who places patients and staff at the centre of everything. The post holder will have 24‑hour responsibility for the management of the ward, ensuring outstanding patient care and experience. Visible and supportive, the post holder will undertake and supervise clinical practice with staff to ensure wellbeing and a skilled workforce is maintained. Accountable for safe, effective clinical practice within their area. A positive role model who motivates and encourages the development of a skilled workforce while maintaining outstanding care for patients and relatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist care, treatment and rehabilitation consistent with best practice, service users’ views and carers where appropriate.
  • Actively intervene where disease and disability exist to promote optimal health and independence.
  • Manage agreed budgets for supplies, services, and manpower, ensuring income‑expenditure balance at year end.
  • Liaise with professional heads to ensure evidence‑based, highest standard care.
  • Ensure services are delivered within the local clinical governance framework; staff are aware of and meet their obligations.

Essential Qualifications

  • OEsRGN 1st level with extensive experience at a deputy post level in a hospital setting.
  • Current NMC registration.

Essential Experience

  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
  • Experience of audit, change management and resource management.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Experience of managing a team.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of NMC standards and requirements.

Desirable

  • Understanding of local and national issues affecting older people’s nursing.

Salary £47,810 to £54,710 a year.
