Basic Purpose of the Position: Tool & Die Technicians are responsible for the maintenance, setup, and preventative care of precision equipment including but not limited to tube mills, fin presses, form rolling machines, benders, and the embossing mill. Uptime and reliability are the two main goals of day-to-day activities. Troubleshooting down equipment efficiently is paramount to the success of both the department and the plant.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Serve our customers (equipment operators) so that they may perform their daily duties to the best of their ability.
  • Communicate and over-communicate all issues, ideas, and improvements to all team members.
  • Execute and comply with all safety standards required by Evapco.
  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing work orders following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Participate in 5S activities when necessary.
  • Take part in capital equipment project launches both mechanically and procedurally.
  • Act as both trainer and trainee on a multitude of machines depending on proficiency.
  • Document completed work via work order notes, drawings, bill of material updates, or other pertinent job information.
  • Report near misses and recordable accidents within the team and assist with accident investigations when called upon.
  • Periodically adjust working hours depending on workload.
  • May perform other duties as assigned, including hands-on direct labor when necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and professional behaviour daily.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • Reading and understanding engineering drawings and BOM’s required.
  • Use and understanding of various measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, and other precision gauging equipment.
  • Recognise and solve problems.
  • Recognise the potential in others and utilise that potential.
  • Mentor and train when applicable, become a mentee or trainee when necessary.
  • Deal with conflict in a positive, factual manner.
  • Word, Excel knowledge and ability to learn all EVAPCO software-based programs.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily works at ground level, but requires periodic work at up to 40 feet on ladders, scaffolding, or lifts.
  • Constant lifting of many different parts, tools, and assemblies, sometimes over 50 lbs.
  • Work requires crawling, squatting, bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions at times.
  • Requires good mechanical hand coordination and cognitive abilities.
  • Temperature extremes, in general, from 20° F to 110° F.
  • Requires very good agility (i.e. bending, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, squatting, twisting, and lifting).
  • Operating cranes or other lifting devices.
  • Normal work week Monday through Friday, some Saturday work.
