Quality Welding Inspector - Low Side is responsible for the following:
- Inspecting product processes and workmanship at various stages of production to ensure they meet quality standards, including examining products for defects or deviations from specifications.
- Performing the final inspection as well as routine inspections on all sections before units are released for shipment, ensuring that the certified print and production order agree, sections are assembled properly according to Engineering specifications, and all parts are correct.
- Reporting all rework requested to the appropriate supervisor.
- Testing linear tools, inspecting, logging, and testing components and equipment used by EVAPCO mechanics and welders.
- Monitoring operations to ensure they meet production standards, which may include reading production prints, EVAPCO controlled documents, specifications, and tolerances.
- Accepting or rejecting finished product items, production processes, workmanship, and reporting products and workmanship that don't meet production and quality standards.
- Reporting inspection results with the production and quality team to contribute to continuous improvement of EVAPCO Madera.
- Cross training with other inspectors at Evapco West.
- Welding experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience

- Understanding of B31.5 fundamentals and requirements.
- Experience with troubleshooting fabrication components.
- Understanding and proper use of tape measure within 1/32”.
- Must be able to use overhead crane and have a valid driver’s license.
- Basic shop math skills (i.e., add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions).
- Ability to read Production Orders & understand shop drawings.
- Familiarity with common hand and power tools.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Essential Functions
- Perform visual in-process and final examination in accordance with B31.5 code, including joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, and appearance of finished joints and welds.
- Perform routine and final inspections/reports on all sections before units are released for assembly.
- Handle the return of damaged units or sections by generating a written report and taking pictures if required.
- Assume all responsibilities associated with certified units (B31.5 Code/CRN, etc.) including witnessing/signing off procedures requiring QC Holds.
- Assist with the training of new and current welders.
- Participate in team and shop business problem-solving activities that include quality, safety, scrap reduction, and process improvements.
- Meet or exceed annual safety, quality, 5-S, and productivity targets.
- Attend training courses as directed by management.
- Must know how to read and understand circuit drawings, certified prints, engineering drawings, production orders, and shop drawings.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Shop/Field Environment: Temperature extremes range from 20° F. to 110° F. Requires very good agility (bending, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, squatting, twisting, and lifting).
- Working at high elevations (tops of tall buildings or platforms).
Equipment Used
- Various hand tools as required, and at times the use of heavy equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.
