Position Overview
The special education teacher is responsible for planning and implementing goals of the students' Individual Education Program (IEP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow legal requirements as dictated by state and federal statutes.
- Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
- Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
- Evaluate and monitor student progress.
- Maintain physical environment of the classroom.
- Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other forms.
- Maintain communication system with parents/caregivers of classroom students.
- Plan individual educational programs designed to meet student's needs and conform to state and federal laws.
- Assume responsibility for the development and implementation of specific objectives to meet the needs of each individual student.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement.

Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write routine reports and correspondence. Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public.

Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Apply financial concepts and statistical inferences.
Reasoning Ability

Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, see, and hear. Frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally sit and reach with hands and arms. Able to lift 40 pounds or more individually and/or push/pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
