Eutelsat are looking for an intern with a passion for Satellite Communications and Modelling, to join our team. The intern will work on supporting the development of our in‑house PHY layer simulator which models end‑to‑end PHY layer performance of our Current and Future LEO/GEO systems.
Contribute to the design and implementation of physical layer (PHY) models within an in‑house end‑to‑end simulation framework for satellite communication systems. Develop, integrate, and extend PHY layer components such as waveform generation, channel and impairment models, synchronization and tracking algorithms, and control/signalling mechanisms. Adapt and enhance existing models to support new use cases, standards, or system architectures (e.g. GEO/LEO scenarios, forward and return links).
Model validation and analysis:
- Validate implemented models through simulations, performance analysis, and comparison with theoretical expectations or reference results.
- Evaluate the impact of PHY layer algorithms and impairments on link‑level and system‑level performance metrics.
- Support debugging, testing, and performance optimisation of the simulator.
Documentation:
- Document implemented models, assumptions, and algorithms to ensure clarity, reproducibility, and long‑term maintainability of the simulation tool.
- Contribute to technical notes, user documentation, and internal reports summarising modelling approaches and results.
- Work closely with systems and modelling engineers to understand requirements and translate them into simulation implementations.
- Participate in technical discussions and code reviews within the team.
- Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of the PHY simulation framework.
Skills Required:
- Student in telecommunications engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, Physics or related field.
- Knowledge of PHY layer modelling.
- Knowledge of 3GPP (4G LTE + 5GNR)
- Understanding of RF communications concepts
- Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
- Good Level of English
Internship conditions:
- Duration: 3‑4 months, adaptable to academic requirements.
