As the Operations REX Manager, you will be responsible for leading the Operations REX team and driving operational safety performance reviews across Eurostar’s entire network. You’ll manage a team of experts that supports all departments in ensuring safety compliance, investigating operational incidents, and providing safety-related recommendations.
This is a permanent role based at our Kings Cross office with some travel to our other sites as required.
The close date for this role is Sunday 16th March 2025.
We’re looking for someone to:
- Manage a team of operational REX experts to identify, investigate, and act on operational events, incidents, and accidents for the whole Eurostar (across all networks in the UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany).
- Manage the Retour d’Experience and Rail Safety route documentation.
- Through established technical and operational expertise, set out the remit for local and formal investigations and provide company-wide expertise on operational safety.
- Lead the organisation’s capability to investigate operational incidents.
- Identify and propose recommended actions when trends of operational performance are apparent.
- Responsible for the provision of systems underpinning operational safety, such as weekly and periodical operating publications.
- Oversee operational investigations and provide expertise to identify immediate and underlying causes of incidents, ensuring continuous safety improvements.
- Lead the monitoring of the operations human factors performance across all departments and disciplines and propose specific actions to enhance overall performance.
- When an awareness-raising operation seems necessary following the analysis of an event (with a high risk or learning potential for the group), draw up a REX form for distribution to the business lines.
- Maintain systems for operational safety, including safety publications and the control of operating documents and acknowledgements.
- Prepare monthly Safety Management Group (SMG) reports on operational safety, highlighting trends and actions to mitigate risk.
- Act as the primary point of contact for UK authorities and internal/external partners, representing Operations on safety-related matters.
Minimum Requirements:
- Significant experience in the railway industry, with a focus on safety-related environments.
- Advanced knowledge in team management, railway safety management, and the UK & EU railway legislation.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record in managing cross-functional teams.
- Fluent in English with some understanding of French.
- Strong technical expertise in operational safety.
- Ability to investigate incidents thoroughly and compile detailed reports with clear recommendations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Safety understanding and responsibility for producing safety documentation and providing safety expertise.
