The key role of an Art Elective Leader for Charterhouse Summer School is to deliver up to 8 hours of high-quality tuition per week as part of the afternoon Elective programme. Reporting to the Course Director and Assistant Director, Elective Leaders plan and deliver engaging, interactive sessions, assess student progress, and contribute to a safe and positive environment.

Staff complete one two-hour teaching session per day over a five-day working week. Two days off are allocated on a rota basis. Support and supervise students during Elective sessions, ensuring a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. Plan and deliver dynamic, fun, and communicative art sessions in line with the Elective programme and guidance from the Course Director. Guide students towards an end of course art exhibition. Maintain accurate records of lessons, attendance, and student progress. Ensure appropriate standards of student behaviour in line with guidance from senior staff and course policies.

Support the planning and delivery of afternoon and evening activities by contributing to clear and well-prepared Plans of Action (POAs). Work closely with colleagues to ensure operational planning is completed in advance and deadlines are met. Participate in Morning Meetings, daily staff meetings, and weekly review sessions. Follow safeguarding procedures at all times and contribute to the wellbeing of students and colleagues. Support excursions and off-site activities as required, assisting with student supervision. Assist with airport transfers when required, providing a professional and friendly service.

They must handle sensitive situations with care and respect, adhering to confidentiality and data protection guidance. Elective Leaders are expected to remain professional and calm at all times, display strong organisational skills, and act as positive role models, contributing to a safe, enjoyable, and enriching working and learning environment.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL

  • Have experience teaching or leading art sessions with children or young people, ideally in a summer or residential setting.
  • Be proactive, energetic, and able to engage students in fun and interactive ways.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
