The key role of an Activity Leader is to support the welfare, safety, and enjoyment of students throughout the course. Activity Leaders supervise students across the daily programme and play an active role in planning and delivering afternoon and evening activities. They also support operational and preparation tasks during morning sessions. Activity Leaders contribute to a safe, positive, and engaging environment, ensuring that students are cared for appropriately and enjoy a high-quality summer school experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support and supervise students throughout the day, including house routines, activities, mealtimes, and bedtime duties.
  • Live within the assigned boarding house and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure students’ welfare, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Build positive relationships with students, supporting their engagement and enjoyment of all aspects of camp life.
  • Support the planning and delivery of afternoon and evening activities by contributing to clear and well-prepared Plans of Action (POAs).
  • Lead and participate in a range of sports, arts, and social activities, providing appropriate guidance or coaching where qualified.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure operational planning is completed in advance and deadlines are met.
  • Take part in Morning Meetings, helping to energise students and prepare them for the day ahead.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of student behaviour in line with guidance from senior staff and course policies.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times and complete quality control processes, including accurate incident reporting and record keeping.
  • Attend staff meetings and review sessions, contributing positively to team communication and development.
  • Support excursions and airport transfers when required, ensuring students are supervised safely and professionally.

Activity Leaders are expected to maintain high personal standards and demonstrate a friendly, positive, and approachable manner. They must remain professional and calm at all times and be able to handle sensitive situations with care and discretion, adhering to confidentiality and data protection guidance.

Strong organisational skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to act as a positive role model are essential in contributing to a safe, enjoyable, and enriching working environment.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supervising children or young people in an educational, residential, sporting, or activity-based environment.

  • Remain calm, organised, and adaptable when responding to challenges.
