Job Specification:
The appointed Civil Resident Engineer will be based on-site and responsible for overseeing the implementation of civil engineering works in accordance with design intent, quality standards, and safety regulations. Acting as the primary point of communication between the design office and the site, the Resident Engineer ensures that all civil elements are executed efficiently, accurately, and in line with project specifications. The role requires strong technical knowledge, communication, and coordination skills.

The Civil Resident Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager and act as a critical link between the site operations and the design office. The role involves close collaboration with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure design compliance in the field.
Specific Responsibilities:
Site Supervision and Inspection :
- Monitor and inspect civil works on-site to ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and safety regulations.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies between design and actual site conditions.
Liaison with Design Office :
- Act as the primary point of contact between the design office and site teams.
- Communicate technical queries (RFIs), site observations, and feedback to the design team promptly and accurately.
Design Compliance and Interpretation :
- Ensure the design is interpreted and implemented correctly by contractors.
- Assist in translating complex design elements into practical site solutions.
Technical Support and Issue Resolution :
- Provide on-the-ground technical support to construction teams.
- Participate in resolving unforeseen issues with practical and compliant engineering solutions.
Progress Monitoring and Reporting :
- Track progress of civil works and prepare regular site reports for the Engineering Manager and project stakeholders.
- Highlight potential risks, delays, or deviations from the design.
Quality Assurance and Documentation :
- Maintain detailed site records, including inspections, test results, and non-conformance reports.
- Ensure civil work is carried out to a high standard of quality and all documentation is up to date.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance :
- Monitor compliance with HSE standards and report any incidents or unsafe practices.
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure site works adhere to environmental and planning constraints.
Qualifications:
Educational Background :
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognized university.
- Master’s degree preferred but not essential.
Professional Accreditation :
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartered status with a recognized body (e.g., Engineers Ireland, ICE).
Experience :
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in site-based civil engineering roles, preferably involving infrastructure or industrial projects.
- Experience liaising between design offices and construction teams is essential.
Technical Skills :
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes etc.).
- Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings and specifications on-site.
Project Management and Communication :
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficient in producing detailed site reports and communicating technical issues clearly.
Other Requirements :
