The appointed Civil Design Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of civil engineering designs across a variety of projects. Based in the Dublin office, the role involves designing and coordinating civil engineering solutions that meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements, while ensuring that all designs are delivered on time and within budget.

The Civil Design Engineer will report directly to the Design Manager and work closely with other members of the design and engineering team to ensure that project deliverables align with the company’s goals and client specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Scope Definition and Agreement: Collaborating with the Design Manager, project leads, and clients to define the scope of civil design work. This includes assessing technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements to ensure clarity and agreement on project deliverables.
  • Design Development: Preparing detailed civil engineering designs, calculations, and drawings for various projects, ensuring all designs meet relevant codes, standards, and client specifications. This includes site infrastructure, drainage systems, earthworks, and structural foundations.
  • Team Collaboration: Working alongside other design disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.) to ensure that civil design elements are well-coordinated within the broader project framework. The engineer will also provide technical input to junior designers and drafters as required.
  • Regulatory and Standards Compliance: Ensuring that all designs adhere to relevant local and international civil engineering standards and regulatory frameworks, including health and safety regulations, environmental considerations, and planning laws.
  • Design Adaptability: As projects evolve, the Civil Design Engineer will be responsible for updating and refining designs as necessary to address changes in project scope, client requirements, or site conditions. The engineer will ensure that any adaptations maintain quality and compliance with all standards.
  • Project Documentation: Producing and reviewing civil engineering documentation, such as design reports, technical specifications, and tender documents, to ensure they accurately reflect design intentions and meet all project requirements.
  • Client Liaison and Reporting: Maintaining regular communication with clients, providing updates on design progress, and ensuring client expectations are managed effectively throughout the design process. The engineer will also prepare regular design status reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design Quality Assurance: Conducting regular design reviews, checking for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project goals. The engineer will ensure all designs are peer-reviewed and approved before submission to the client.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognised university. A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Professional Accreditation: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards chartered status, with a recognised professional body such as Engineers Ireland, ICE, or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in civil engineering design, preferably in an office environment working on large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects. Experience with the design of earthworks, drainage, foundations, site development and other key civil components. Experience with roads / railways / canals / pipelines / underground transmission lines would be beneficial.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit. Strong knowledge of civil engineering standards, codes, and best practices (e.g., Eurocodes, etc.). Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Project Management and Communication: Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and liaising with clients.
