Who we are
European Technology Group (“ETG”) is an evergreen holding company focused on acquiring, building, and growing software businesses that are running the public sector. Founded by a former Blackstone Private Equity professional and supported by top-tier investors and software executives, ETG combines a commitment to entrepreneurial excellence with a multi-decade horizon.
Over the next 3-4 years, ETG plans to invest up to €100 million into niche software companies across Europe, starting in the DACH region. These businesses typically generate €1-5 million in EBITDA, and we aim to complete 2-3 acquisitions per year while scaling this pace over time. ETG’s mission is to support these businesses through strategic initiatives, operational improvements, and a focus on sustainable growth while preserving the founder’s legacy.
To realize this vision, ETG employs a decentralized management framework while establishing centers of excellence to refine go-to-market strategies, enhance product development, and drive talent acquisition and incentivization. ETG’s seasoned board, comprising leading software CEOs and investors with decades of expertise, provides critical insights and guidance to its portfolio companies.
Role Description
As the Chief Of Staff, you will be ETG’s first hire and core to the strategy of the Business. You will be working alongside the founder and spearhead ETG’s proactive engagement with business owners and intermediaries, forming the cornerstone of the company’s acquisition strategy. This pivotal, revenue-generating role demands exceptional autonomy, as you will play an integral role in shaping ETG’s acquisition processes while laying the foundation for a Europe-wide sourcing team.
As a direct peer to the Founder, your primary responsibilities will include at the beginning:
- Target Identification: Conduct comprehensive industry analyses, curate acquisition targetlists (supported by offshore administrative teams and interns), and identify candidates that align with ETG’s precise investment criteria.
- Direct Outreach: Design and execute targeted email and phone campaigns to generate proprietary deal flow, establishing ETG as a buyer of choice.
- Relationship Management: Cultivate enduring relationships with business owners and intermediaries, collaborate with the investment team to draft LOIs, and oversee seamless transitions to the closing process. This role will require regular travel to engage with stakeholders and attend relevant industry conferences.
This position offers a highly competitive base salary complemented by an uncapped, formulaic bonus structure directly tied to signed LOIs and successful transactions and an equity incentive package. Exceptional performers will have the opportunity to earn multiples of their base salary, with flexibility in structuring compensation as cash, equity, or a combination of both.
Candidate Profile
We seek a driven and accomplished professional with exceptional interpersonal skills, an intrinsic drive to succeed, and a proven ability to foster meaningful relationships. Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:
- Experience: 1-2 years of experience in M&A, corporate development, consulting or deal origination within a reputable investment fund, software acquisition platform, or corporate environment. Experience in the lower mid-market / software space is highly desirable.
- Relationship Management: An ability to build trust and rapport with business owners and intermediaries, ensuring sustainable engagement.
- Analytical Expertise: Proficiency in business analysis and financial evaluation
- Academic Credentials: An undergraduate degree from a top tier university. Demonstrated professional excellence will take precedence.
- Location: Central London with flexibility around 1-2 days per week remote setups; the role will involve a lot of travelling to Germany and across Europe as we will be engaging with business owners
- Language: Fluency in English and another European language required
This role will have substantial long-term growth opportunities with multiple avenues of development that you can shape yourself. Over time, we will setup a central excellence function, a deal origination team, and other offices across Europe – you can get involved wherever you see fit, but you can also continue focus on deal sourcing.
