Principal Researcher – AI / Machine Learning / Semiconductor Design / LLMs / Reinforcement Learning

We are currently partnered with a technology organisation conducting advanced AI research across semiconductor design and fundamental machine learning research. They are looking to hire a Principal Researcher to shape research strategy, lead multiple high-impact projects, drive advances in AI and machine learning, and represent research initiatives across external academic, industry, and funding partnerships.

The role spans applied AI for semiconductor design and broader fundamental research, with current areas of interest including large language models, deep learning optimisation, reinforcement learning, and generative models.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and communicate the strategic vision for research across the organisation
• Oversee multiple high-impact research projects and ensure alignment with organisational goals
• Drive advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence through innovative research
• Mentor and provide leadership to senior researchers and research teams
• Represent research teams in external partnerships, collaborations, and policy discussions
• Influence organisational research priorities and contribute to policy development
• Build and maintain relationships with academic, industry, and funding partners
• Publish and present research findings at leading conferences, journals, and industry forums
• Stay current with developments in AI and related research fields
• Identify new research opportunities and areas for potential impact
• Support research across AI applications for semiconductor design and fundamental AI research

Key requirements

• PhD in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent research experience
• Distinguished publication record in leading conferences and journals, including venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and ACL
• Demonstrated ability to shape research strategy and oversee multiple projects
• Proven track record of driving research breakthroughs and influencing research priorities
• Advanced programming proficiency in Python, C++, or similar languages
• Deep expertise in optimisation, reinforcement learning, and/or large language models
• Experience in chip design and applied AI research
• Familiarity with deep learning frameworks including TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX
