We are working with a world renowned Technology research organisation, who are looking to take a database engineer who will work on empirical computer science research, system design, and prototype implementation. In addition, the successful candidate will work in close collaboration with local universities and academic researchers globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop next-generation database and data management systems, including query processing, storage engines, indexing, transaction processing, and distributed systems.
- Research and prototype advanced query optimisation techniques for transactional, analytical, hybrid, and AI-driven workloads.
- Develop efficient storage, indexing, caching, and data layout techniques for structured, semi-structured, multimodal, and AI-native data.
- Explore distributed and cloud-native database architectures, including data partitioning, replication, fault tolerance, and large-scale query execution.
- Build AI data infrastructure capabilities, including vector search, RAG, semantic data management, knowledge graphs, and agent memory systems.
- Advance on-device AI technologies, including LLM quantisation, efficient inference, fine-tuning, knowledge distillation, and memory systems for agentic AI.
- Conduct performance analysis, benchmarking, and optimisation across compute, memory, storage, networking, and accelerator resources.
- Publish research outcomes through prototypes, patents, technical reports, and leading conferences such as SIGMOD, VLDB, OSDI, NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, product, and academic partners to translate research into real-world systems and technologies.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in database systems, AI systems, distributed systems, operating systems, or computer systems research.
- Solid understanding of query processing, optimisation, storage engines, indexing, distributed data management, and AI system fundamentals.
- Experience with system design, implementation, evaluation, benchmarking, and performance analysis.
- Proficiency in systems programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, or Go.
- Experience with AI frameworks and programming environments such as Python and TensorFlow.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with database or infrastructure systems such as PostgreSQL, DuckDB, Spark, Flink, ClickHouse, RocksDB, TiDB, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of modern data systems, including cloud-native, HTAP, vector, graph, and AI-native databases.
- Familiarity with hardware-aware system design, including GPUs, NPUs, RDMA, CXL, NUMA, and heterogeneous computing platforms.
- Experience with vector search, RAG, knowledge graphs, semantic data management, or agent memory systems.
- Publications in leading database, systems, or AI conferences are desirable.
