Telecommunication Systems Product Engineer in the Ground Segment Section, Technology and Products Division, Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department, Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications. As your main assignment, you will support the AIDAN Next public‑private partnership project, and provide technical support for technology and product development activities for telecommunications applications.
Responsibilities
- Provide communication system engineering expertise with a focus on optical communications, and coordinate project review activities.
- Support end‑to‑end system architecture definition, development, and verification activities.
- Assist in the development of critical technologies for the AIDAN Next project.
- Participate in technology and product roadmap meetings, evaluate procurement proposals, and negotiate contracts.
- Identify critical development problems and help resolve them.
- Initiate, monitor, and control ground segment and end‑to‑end system product development activities, and manage implementation of related activities.
- Review business cases and market assumptions for industry‑initiated ground segment and end‑to‑end system activities.
- Conduct industry roadmap meetings, contribute to ESA‑initiated activities, and define product needs and innovations.
- Support market intelligence monitoring, strategic initiatives, and promotion of the Directorate’s programmes.
- Coordinate expert technical support supplied by other ESA organisational units.
Qualifications
- Experience managing product development activities for satellite communication applications.
- Knowledge of ESA and industrial development, verification, and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of satellite communications ground segment architecture, products, market and business case analysis.
- Knowledge of satellite communications end‑to‑end system architecture across different markets and use cases.
- Result orientation, operational efficiency, fostering cooperation, relationship management, continuous improvement, and forward thinking.
- Master’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
Additional Requirements
- Direct experience working with a commercial telecommunications operator and European industry, with an understanding of an agency framework.
- Understanding of satellite communication market dynamics, business plans, and market trends, and disruptive innovation strategies.
- Knowledge of project management practices and standards.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract or subcontract management.
