The post holder will be responsible for assisting and facilitating the safe and effective delivery of the community infant BCG programme activity in a specified locality, undertaking clinical assessment of eligible babies and administering the intradermal BCG vaccination.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise parents and carers on the BCG vaccine, including after‑care of the site.
  • Contribute to identifying and protecting children at risk of abuse in accordance with local Safeguarding Children’s Board guidelines.
  • Maintain statutory & mandatory training records (BLS, Anaphylaxis and Immunisation).
  • Provide support, mentorship, guidance and supervision to junior staff members.
  • Promote and facilitate collaborative working with parents, carers, families of eligible children and all stakeholders to provide a coordinated service for the community.
  • Maintain legible, contemporaneous records, safeguarding confidentiality.
  • Carry out clinical governance activities in accordance with VUK policies and procedures for best practice.
  • Provide advice and support (including signposting where appropriate) on other missed or due childhood vaccinations for any eligible baby who attends the clinic.
  • Escalate issues, risks or clinical incidents to management that arise, e.g. contract compliance, service delivery and client safety.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position.
  • Comply with Company policies & procedures.

Qualifications:

  • RN (NMC registered) – adult or child branch, live on NMC register.
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
  • Practical knowledge of national and local policy relating to BCG immunisation programme, PGD, child protection procedures, safeguarding children and adults, the Immunisation Green Book, NHS routine childhood schedule, cold‑chain procedures, medicines management, and storage and carriage instructions for immunisations.
  • Effective communication skills with children and adults.
  • Experience of paediatric immunisation and medicines management.
  • Car driver with a car or the ability to travel between locations with equipment.
  • Good team player but able to work autonomously.
  • Evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B.
