Overview
The European Foundation for Business Qualification (EFBQ) seeks a Category Manager to develop and execute strategic category management plans for waste transportation and disposal services. The role focuses on managing third‑party subcontractors, leading competitive tender processes, and negotiating rates across multiple waste streams. This position drives value creation, manages supplier relationships, and aligns with organisational and Group Procurement objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end tendering processes for waste transportation and disposal services.
- Negotiate competitive rates and contract terms with haulage providers and waste disposal subcontractors.
- Conduct market analysis to ensure best value across all transportation modes (road, rail, sea, air).
- Manage fuel surcharge mechanisms, demurrage arrangements, and other cost‑control measures.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors, conducting regular performance reviews and ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement performance improvement plans and supplier risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop and execute category strategies for waste transportation and disposal, including incineration, landfill, recycling, composting, and specialised treatments.
- Measure and report on category performance using KPIs and metrics, identifying and mitigating category‑specific risks.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, procurement business partners, finance, legal, compliance and sustainability teams to align category strategies with business goals.
- Provide demand forecasting, planning, and budgeting support to ensure optimal service levels.
- Manage and develop a Category Specialist, delegating tasks and fostering team growth.
- Develop category‑specific action plans addressing sustainability goals, conduct risk assessments, and identify circular economy opportunities.
Qualifications – Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field, or CIPS qualification (MCIPS) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in procurement or category management, running competitive tenders.
- Strong track record of negotiating haulage rates and waste disposal contracts.
- Experience managing third‑party subcontractors and service providers in the waste management sector.
- Proficiency in strategic procurement, contract management, relationship management, communication, time management, data analysis, risk management, and continuous improvement.
- Advanced knowledge of supplier relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of sustainability, ESG, waste management regulations, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications – Desirable
- Chartered CIPS status (MCIPS) or Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CMILT).
- MBA or relevant master’s qualification.
- Experience within the waste management or environmental services sector.
- Knowledge of hazardous and special waste regulations.
- Experience with freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or international transportation.
- Ability to work well under pressure, strong verbal and written communication, innovative problem solving.
- Supportive team player and inclusive collaborator.
