About Us
The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. The School unites over 400 experts in women and children’s health, nutritional sciences, population health and the molecular genetics of human disease. Our research links the causes of common health problems to life’s landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum. We are interdisciplinary by nature and this innovative approach works: 91 per cent of our research submitted to the Subjects Allied to Medicine (Pharmacy, Nutritional Sciences and Women\’s Health cluster) for REF was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. We use this expertise to teach the next generation of health professionals and research scientists. Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments.

About the role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant with an interest in cardiovascular science or renal health.
The Research Assistant will play a key role in the delivery of the ‘Hypertension in Children and Young People at risk of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease’ (HiYA – PKD) study. This is a multi-centre study looking at cardiovascular and renal health in children and adolescents, and as such, the successful applicant will need to be comfortable working and communicating with children, adolescents and their families.
The purpose of this role is to support the organisation and operational running of the HiYA-PKD study, which will involve answering email and telephone enquiries from potential participants and booking research appointments; the input, management and analysis of study data; and preparation of regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders. Other responsibilities will include maintenance of study governance documentation and site files, and collation of data and documents from external sites.
As this is a multi-centre study, the Research Assistant will be required to liaise with colleagues at other hospitals to arrange appointments and monitor recruitment. In addition, the post-holder will be trained to perform some simple non-invasive cardiovascular measurements on research subjects, such as applanation tonometry. As such, knowledge of cardiovascular science would be advantageous for this role.
The post-holder will be responsible to the project Chief Investigator, Professor Manish Sinha, and supported in their role by Research Associates on the study and a wider research team.
This is a part time post (14 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 March 2028.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
- BSc (2:1 or higher) in a biological or related science
- Knowledge of cardiovascular or renal science
- Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Experience of working with adolescents and young people, preferably in a health-related environment
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent IT skills, including Excel and Office applications
- Experience of performing basic statistical analyses with SPSS or equivalent software
- Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, actively addressing areas of potential bias
- Previous experience of clinical research
- Experience of working in a collaborative team
