The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is Europe's life sciences laboratory. We operate six sites across Europe each with its own research units, services and facilities.
At the EMBL Grenoble Site, scientists focus on both fundamental research in structural molecular biology, and on developing state-of-the art instrumentation, methods and services.
EMBL Grenoble shares the European Photon and Neutron (EPN) Science Campus with two other international organizations, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) as well as the French Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS).
EMBL’s IT Services team delivers and supports IT infrastructure and services across our sites in Heidelberg, Hamburg, Grenoble, Rome and Barcelona.
The EMBL Grenoble IT Services Team provides a broad range of services, including desktop and laptop support, scientific instrument support, Windows and Linux server administration, data-collection infrastructure and scientific computing.
We are looking for an experienced, service-oriented IT Support Engineer to join our IT Services team in a desktop support role at EMBL in Grenoble.
This person would continue to provide high-quality first-level and desktop support to a diverse, international user community, while also managing key Windows backend services.
Your role
- Provide professional desktop support for mac OS, Windows, and Linux systems, as well as mobile devices.
- Provide professional support for video-conferencing events and systems.
- Manage system and software deployments using enterprise tools (e. g. Microsoft SCCM, JAMF Pro).
- Configure and maintain user environments, including accounts, network access, printing, and email services.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues across supported platforms.
- Deliver a responsive, user-focused helpdesk service with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction.
- Track, document, and manage support requests in line with IT service management best practices.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of IT services, infrastructure and user experience.
- Deliver support for selected scientific instruments and scientific computing.
- You have
- At least 2 years of professional experience in an IT support environment.
- A degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience.
- Hands-on experience managing and supporting Windows, Linux and mac OS systems, including desktop and mobile platforms.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange and Microsoft 365 services.
- Experience integrating desktop and mobile devices into enterprise IT environments, including network, file, email and collaboration services.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and French.
- You may also have
- Experience with enterprise software deployment and configuration management tools (e. g. Microsoft SCCM, JAMF Pro).
- Knowledge of virtualisation and associated technologies
Contract length: 3 years, renewable to a maximum of 9 years.
Salary: Grade 5, monthly salary starting from € 3.568,39 after tax, plus generous benefits and financial allowances based on individual circumstances.
Excluding 12.99% personal pension and insurance contributions.
