The Principal Banker, Debt Mobilisation Sales and Advisory is primarily responsible for leading mobilisation efforts around EBRD loan transactions, maximizing mobilisation (annual mobilised investment, AMI) and acting as the interface between EBRD and debt co‑investment partners such as commercial banks, insurance companies and asset managers/pension funds. The role is also secondary support for the Debt Mobilisation Product Development function and reports to an Associate Director.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Support banking in structuring debt transactions to maximize mobilisation through syndication, risk‑transfer, or product offerings.
- Deliver a minimum level of AMI and fee income per year (set annually).
- Lead primary and secondary mobilisation activities under the supervision of an Associate Director.
- Prepare and coordinate information for potential co‑financiers and negotiate documentation to ensure timely availability of finance.
- Maintain strong working relationships, produce regular market trend updates, and share new mobilisation products with internal stakeholders.
- Train junior team members across all phases of the project cycle.
Market Knowledge
- Good awareness of commercial banks’, insurance and alternative debt investors’ strategy and appetite for investing in specific clients, sectors and products.
- Maintain market knowledge through ongoing discussions with co‑financing partners.
Staff Management
- Coach and mentor junior members, ensuring they understand EBRD’s standards and processes.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support business development opportunities to attract new co‑financing partners.
- Contribute to continuous optimisation of existing mobilisation products.
- Support product development initiatives by contributing to ongoing workstreams.
- Attend industry and mobilisation‑related events, conferences, and meetings with government authorities, investors, and business communities.
Qualifications
- Relevant university degree or equivalent experience.
- Credit analysis skills and understanding of local & international accounting principles.
- Strong quantitative and numerical skills, ability to design and use financial models.
- Sound decision‑making skills with a focus on providing solutions and high ethical standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; fluency in another major language is a plus.
- Prior experience in EBRD’s countries of operation is ideal.
Experience & Knowledge
- Relevant financial industry experience (investment bank, commercial bank, private equity, asset management, audit/consulting).
- Extensive experience managing transactions through to conclusion.
- Knowledge of syndication, leveraged finance, and project finance markets.
- Prior exposure to climate finance is an advantage.
- Experience in relevant industry or country may be required.
