The role holder is responsible for delivering operational tasks for the Health and Safety Unit (HSU). This role collaborates closely with the HSU Advisor(s) and Head of Health and Safety, working independently to provide efficient operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver various administration activities to ensure the efficient running of global Health & Safety programmes, including:
- Monitor Group H&S Mailbox and act as focal point for H&S queries
- Develop and track HSU programme action plans
- Assist with the preparation and logistics of training and workshops, maintain training records, liaise with Office Managers and the LMS owner to ensure electronic H&S training is available
- Oversee the logistics of the Bank’s medical suite in HQ for suppliers such as the ergonomist and the medical provider
- Organise awareness campaigns such as Global Health and Safety Day and Road Safety Day
- Assist with the implementation of new initiatives to improve safety
- Support the HSU during crisis situations, including medical evacuation or relocation of staff
- Contribute to ISO45001 alignment with document revision control and record maintenance
- Maintain the HSU stockroom in the HQ basement, ensuring supplies are kept and reordered as required
- Collate data to support reporting for Corporate Services Governance Forum, Corporate Services Dashboard, Annual Corporate Report, and Risk Comm report; undertake trend analysis to inform HSU strategy, improvement plans, and audit findings.
- Maintain the HSU intranet page and ServiceNow (H&S) tool, including knowledge articles, audit tool, action plans and incident reporting.
- Be aware of the Bank’s Operational Risk Appetite Statement for H&S; prepare generic and task‑specific risk assessments; research and draft H&S guidance to support risk mitigation documentation.
- Investigate incidents, ensure they are recorded and reported internally, update the incident reporting tool and communicate with HROD and the insurance team(s) as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Introductory level health and safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)
- Entry‑level membership to IOSH (Student or Associate) or recognised equivalent body
- Commitment to a Continuous Professional Development programme
- Understanding of health, safety and welfare requirements, legal obligations, benefits of a safety system and control methods for common workplace hazards
- High levels of empathy and commitment to delivering excellent customer service
- Team player with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills at all levels with maturity and diplomacy; fluent English, written and spoken
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)
- High degree of integrity and ability to treat confidential client requests responsibly

- Progressing to Tech IOSH Membership
- Fire Safety Risk Assessor / NEBOSH Fire Safety
- Internal Auditor qualification
- Asbestos awareness
- Legionella awareness (e.g., L8 Responsible Person)
- Construction Design and Management Regulations Awareness
- P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings
- Experience working in higher‑risk environments such as construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, solar energy, wind farm, factory, transport, water treatment or other infrastructure projects or facilities management
- Occupation health and safety professional with 1 year experience or demonstrable volunteering in the H&S field
- Second language
- Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and schedule workload drawing on experience and judgement
