University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site in the United Kingdom for the Humanities program.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Humanities or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Professional experience in Humanities or related field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education strongly preferred.
  • Local applicants only. Adjunct faculty positions are not eligible for UMGC sponsored logistical support.
  • Applicants must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys genuine enthusiasm.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich, regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics for assessment of student work and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.

Lakenheath, United Kingdom (on-site).

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $903 – $1,215 per credit hour (Step 1 – Step 16) depending on degree level (Non-PhD vs. PhD).
  • Adjuncts are eligible for State of Maryland benefits only; they are responsible for the total cost if enrolled.
  • Insurance options: Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment.
  • Supplemental retirement plans: 403(b), 457(b), various Roth options; no matching funds.
  • Health coverage: medical, vision, dental, and prescription plans for individuals and families effective from the first of the month following hire date.

All submissions must include a cover letter and resume. Unofficial transcripts are requested for all conferred degrees; translations or evaluations may be required for international degrees.
