No final do século XIX, o automóvel era um luxo reservado às elites, mas interessa
a todos, atraindo multidões: em 1898, realiza-se em Paris o primeiro salão automóvel.
O aluguer de automóveis verá a luz do dia alguns anos mais tarde, do outro lado do Atlântico, mas o seu desenvolvimento será
travado pela primeira e depois pela segunda guerras mundiais.
No rescaldo da guerra, um empresário parisiense relançou a ideia: \”Se não se pode comprar um
automóvel, porque não alugá-lo quando se precisa dele?\”.
O seu nome era Raoul-Louis Mattei e, em 1949, criou \”L\’Abonnement Automobile\”: uma empresa que mais tarde se tornaria na Compagnie
Internationale Europcars, depois Europcar. A sua sede, localizada na 11 rue du Champ de Mars
também incluía uma agência de aluguer. O sucesso da empresa foi rápido, uma vez que o aluguer de automóveis respondeu a uma
necessidade real.
Em 1951, a l\’Abonnement Automobile foi a primeira empresa de aluguer de automóveis sem condutor e a sua frota
contava com 750 4 CV. Atualmente, o Europcar Mobility Group tem mais de 200.000 veículos em
média na sua frota e serve 5 milhões de clientes em mais de 140 países. Mas a visão em que o nosso
