About The Role
- Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and reliability of all automated processing, extrusion, conveying, cooling, and downstream handling equipment.
- Maintain and adhere to planned preventative maintenance schedules in line with manufacturer guidelines and the site Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and automation-related breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Support, manage, and develop the shift maintenance assistant.
- Carry out daily inspections of all critical plant and equipment prior to and during each shift.
- Monitor and support automated systems, including PLC-controlled machinery, sensors, drives, and safety systems.
- Order, manage, and maintain accurate stock records of spare parts, consumables, and critical components.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of tools, including sign-in/sign-out control of high-value items via the CMMS.
- Escalate recurring faults, safety concerns, or production-critical issues to the Head of Maintenance or Site Operations Manager.
- Ensure full integration and compliance with electronic maintenance and Health & Safety management systems.
- Report misuse, unsafe operation, or damage to machinery to the Head of Maintenance and Health & Safety Manager.
- Ensure work areas remain clean, organised, and free from hazards, reducing the risk of slips, trips, and falls.
- Ensure all Health & Safety concerns, incidents, or near misses are reported in line with site procedures.
- Ensure site visitors and contractors comply with PPE and site sign-in requirements.
- Complete thorough shift handovers using site-specific templates to ensure continuity of maintenance coverage.
- Take full maintenance responsibility for the shift in the absence of the Head of Maintenance.
What We Need From You
- Proven experience in an industrial, automated manufacturing or processing environment.
- Knowledge of extrusion, plastics processing, or recycling plant would be a strong advantage.
- Experience with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps, and automated material handling systems.
- Basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems, sensors, and fault-finding (advanced skills advantageous but not essential).
- Strong Health & Safety awareness with the ability to work safely in a high-risk, automated environment.
- High sense of urgency when troubleshooting plant and production issues.
- Ability to use initiative and remain calm under pressure.
- Proactive approach to identifying, escalating, and resolving issues.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive, “can-do” attitude with a professional approach at all times.
- Flexibility to work overtime when required by the business.
