Purpose

The purpose of this role is to work with the Business Unit Manager and the Group Quality Manager to ensure that the relevant requirements of UKAS, ISO 17025, and the Quality System are implemented and followed at all times. The role includes advising and monitoring all aspects of quality in the laboratory, completing audits and ensuring that corrective action resulting from these audits is carried out.

Hours and Employment Type

This is a part time role working 15 hours a week. Working 4 days per week, 3.75 hours per day between 09:00 and 17:00. Hours/days can be negotiable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that customer complaint investigations and client queries are investigated and resolved in a timely manner in conjunction with Laboratory Management and the Customer Services team.
  • Carry out internal test method audits, system audits and ensure audit programs are adhered to.
  • Ensure all equipment records, calibration and monitoring is carried out by relevant laboratory staff and that appropriate records are maintained.
  • Carrying out internal audits, ensure internal auditing is carried out in their respective areas.
  • Gather pre and post-audit information for external audits and submit data to the accreditation/certification body.
  • Participate in and facilitate external laboratory audits, e.g. UKAS.
  • Carry out, or arrange for method audits to be carried out.
  • Ensure that the corrective actions assigned during internal and external auditing are completed.
  • Preparation and amendment of any quality documentation in their respective areas.
  • Ensuring that complaint investigations relating to accuracy of results in their areas are resolved in conjunction with their line manager.
  • Training of staff in equipment calibration & monitoring procedures.
  • Ensuring that external proficiency scheme samples are analysed and reported accurately, including timely investigations into unsatisfactory results, in conjunction with Laboratory Management.
  • Ensuring that internal quality control is carried out and under control.
  • Ensuring that staff are trained and aware of their responsibilities in respect of quality systems.
  • Attendance at Quality Meetings as required.
  • To carry out any testing allocated to them as required.
  • Collate information and reports and carry out trend analysis for the Annual Management Review meeting.
  • Raise non-conforming work issues related to Quality and investigate using root cause analysis where assigned.
  • Provide the monthly Quality KPI report to designated personnel.
  • Liaise with third-party suppliers on relevant areas e.g. equipment calibration.
  • Escalation of issues affecting Quality performance to Group Quality Managers and Business Unit Manager.
  • Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
  • Organise the PASS customer survey, collate the results and prepare a report with the findings.
  • To partake in any developmental training as required in compliance with the Company Standard.
  • Comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Security Regulations.
  • Any other duties necessary to ensure the quality of results and service to the customers as designated by the Group Quality Manager/ Business Unit Manager.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in chemistry.
  • Working knowledge of Food Chemistry laboratories accredited to ISO 17025.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
  • Proven experience of managing and improving quality management systems.
  • Experience of working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
  • Experience of working with a broad range of internal and external customers.
  • Experience of driving a continuous improvement culture.
  • Excellent presentation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and able to interpret, present and explain complex information.
  • Strong organisational, multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Cross-functional working.
