37.5 Hours per week. Monday - Friday. 9.00am - 5.00pm.
Purpose of the post: To be a key member of the laboratory management team supporting the overall operation ensuring the laboratory operates to the required ISO 17025 standard in-line with the Eurofins QMS. Responsible for the safe, efficient and high quality operation of the laboratory. Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner. Develop a culture of continuous improvement that allows a continual improvement in the lab.
Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual. Ensure staff are suitably trained and all training documents are suitably maintained including ongoing competency. Ensure all equipment is maintained and services to the correct standard ensuring it is all safe to operate and is fully calibrated. Ensure complaints and NCWs are completed to a high standard and in a timely manner. Work closely with the local quality team to ensure full compliance of all parts of ISO 17025 alongside customer specific requirements. To ensure in conjunction with the quality team, that EQA, IQC and DPC systems are maintained and non-conformances are investigated. Represent the laboratory in external audits (regulatory/client audits etc.). Drive TAT to the highest possible level whilst maintaining a tight control on cost and resource levels. Manage waste through the laboratory ensuring this is minimized.
To manage the team, including recruitment, training and development, mentoring, motivation and disciplinary matters. Work closely with the ASM/Customer Service team to ensure a high-level of customer service. Support customer requirements and be a key-link to ensure customer requirements are translated within the lab. Responsible for promoting a professional image of the Company and for complying with the company's Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policies at all times, including work related events which take place outside normal working hours. Read and comply with company rules, procedures, agreements and any notices displayed by the Company. Act as deputy to the Operations Manager/Senior Laboratory Manager/Department Manager in respective areas.
Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in science (microbiology/chemistry/biology/molecular biology etc.). Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc. Proven experience in working to and exceeding targets. Experience of working with a broad range of internal and external customers. Competence in IT, including LIMS, spreadsheets and databases. Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory. Management experience in a water laboratory. Able to present complex information face to face. Strong knowledge of LIMS and instrument system integration to drive laboratory efficiencies.
