Forensic Toxicology Apprentice (BSc Degree Apprenticeship)

We are recruiting a Forensic Toxicology Apprentice to join our Feltham site—a fantastic team and an exciting time to begin your career with a first‑class business. The Forensic Toxicology Apprentice role is a 4‑year programme that balances work with learning. You will support yourself with a fully funded BSc Chemical Science degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. The main learning will occur once a week online, with a residential week each year. Day‑to‑day, you will receive, register and prepare forensic exhibits. Over the four‑year course you will work in different areas of the toxicology laboratory, developing skills in extraction methods, analytical instrumentation and case‑data processing.

If you are passionate about forensic testing and wish to gain vital experience while obtaining your degree, this is an excellent opportunity to join a market‑leading company with over 30 years of experience providing forensic services to police forces, commercial organisations and public sector bodies. Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants must obtain security clearance. You must have five years of continuous residency in the UK. Security clearance is undertaken by a third‑party police vetting service (NPPV/3 and SC), and any criminal convictions may prevent clearance. Successful applicants may also be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing.

The successful candidate will complete all required assignments and off‑the‑job learning during the 20% dedicated study time. You will keep accurate records of your studies and liaise with your skills coach and mentor to ensure course progress is maintained. In addition to your studies, you will carry out scheduled tasks promptly in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety requirements. You will need to travel to the university during block releases and for other agreed activities. Accountable for continuity of items when working on them, you will ensure sample integrity and the chain of custody are maintained.

The Ideal Candidate: We are looking for someone interested in starting a career in forensic toxicology. No prior experience is required; full training will be provided alongside your academic learning during the apprenticeship.

You will need a good academic background to qualify for our apprentice program, including; 104 UCAS points at A-Level (grade BCC), one of which must be chemistry (or an equivalent scientific discipline), or an equivalent Level 3 qualification. A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9‑5, including Science, Maths and English Language (not Literature). As part of the requirement, you must apply and be accepted onto the university course after an offer has been made by EFS.
